Survey on Skill Mismatch

Manpower Planning, Development and Research Division of the Department of Manpower and Employment has decided to conduct a survey to find out whether skill mismatch is prevailing in the Sri Lankan Labour Market and, if so, to recommend policy options.

The survey finding will help to identify the knowledge and skills required by the employers in relation to particular occupation compared to the knowledge and skills actually possessed by job seekers.

This survey will cover 150 companies in Western Province, those who are engaged in Manufacturing, Bank and Finance, Insurance and Hotel fields.

This survey is in progress at present and the information from the companies have been gathered through out-sourced enumerators and the analysis of data is being carried out. The final outcomes of the survey will be published and made available in this website in near future.

 

Graduate Employment Survey

The deficiency of accurate information on the employability of graduate passing out of the National Universities under different academic streams has been a vital obstacle in formulating the national policies on objective-oriented higher education and demand-driven vocational and technical education systems.

The Manpower Planning, Development and Research Division has planned a nationwide survey to fulfill this long-felt national requirement.

Accordingly, the information of graduates passed out from national universities during 2006 - 2008 has been gathered from the respective universities. A questionnaire is being circulated among such graduates and their responses are being collected at present.

The survey is scheduled to be completed within this year.

 

Job profile survey for IT industry in Sri Lanka

This survey identifies A to Z various job categories in the IT sector in order to gather essential particulars of such job titles, separately. Accordingly, survey results will be adopted to create job profile which includes job related information such as qualifications attributes, remuneration & benefits, career pathway etc.

Major aspects of this survey; including Administration, planning, and coordination, are carried out by MPDRD.

In order to ensure the transparency of this survey, the task of data collecting has been out sourced to the Industrial Management Department of University of Kelaniya. Being driven by an academic environment the students of University of Kelaniya have been well trained & organized as data collecting personnel. Hence the credibility of the study is always ensured.

It is sure that, this survey will signify as an unprecedented research experience in the field of Information Technology in Sri Lanka.
